Hey, who thought this up? Yummy fundraising. =D The dedicatees have to be there on Sunday though? Hmm.
well not necessarily per se.
but it would help a lot.
we're planning to buy the donuts on sunday itself, so if they get to the recipients any later, people might get stale donuts! eww.
bring people to xrv!
btw, we've got wani to thank for coming up with the idea.
thanks, wani!
i've been reading on krispy kreme and it seems that its not halal. The glaze contains alcohol. U can try finding out further on this thru contactg authorities. i've only read it thru the net(might not be very reliable) - fizah
assalamualaikum fizah!
thanks for the heads up. i've never really considered that. but that just goes to show how much improving i need.
anyway, i did a quick google check which i admit isn't very reliable in itself, much less so the content of the results they produce. especially for matters such as this.
apparently, krispy kreme has been claimed to contain 0.02% alcohol but then according to this online QnA on IslamiconLine.net,
"If it is clear that it contains alcohol that has the quality of intoxication then we must not consume it. But if it is a different kind that does not have the quality of intoxication, then it can be considered permissible. Please contact the company and ask about the ingredient. Also, refer to the standard guide on Halal and Haram ingredient by Dr. Ahmad Sakr, Zaheeruddin, etc."
there's also an argument that it's been declared permissable by the Hanafi madzhab, which is the madzhab that the majority of us follow in malaysia, brunei, singapore etc.
to me, it's analogous to the argument that we can't use EDT because it contains alcohol. but then, that boils down to personal perspective and niat as well.
i think the alcohol used in KK isn't for flavoring or adding in addictive factors to the product but instead is for preserving the texture and viscocity or whatnot of the glaze?
at the end of it all, i guess everyone has to decide for themselves. i like krispy kreme :)
but then it has to be pointed out that,
"Allah Almighty knows best."
i am such an idiot.
most malaysians follow syafi'e. not hanafi, sorry. got carried away i guess.
so umm.. i dont know what to say about that.
i'm not the most learned of individuals. so tread lightly and take everything with an above average pinch of salt.
